Welcome to clinical placement at Michael Garron Hospital!
We are excited to have you join us and provide care for our community. MGH supports learners across diverse practice settings from different health-related professions. If you are joining us in an unpaid practicum placement through an academic institution and are not studying nursing or medicine, please follow the below steps for student onboarding. All registered students will receive a welcome email outlining the required onboarding steps. It is highly recommended that you review this information early in order to avoid delays in beginning your placement.
- Step 1: Starting a Placement
-
- Once your placement is confirmed you will receive a welcome package. Ensure that you have completed all the steps at least 2 weeks before your placement. It is encouraged to submit these documents as soon as possible to allow for approval and time to mitigate any potential issues that may arise.
- Vaccinations are non-negotiable and you must attest to completing the mandatory requirements prior to your start date. Note that some vaccinations or tests (such as TB skin tests) take time to organize.
- Ensure that you connect with your preceptor prior to your first day to understand dress code, materials needed, suggested and/or required reading, meeting place for day one, etc.
- Step 2: Prior to First Day
-
- Complete online registration (link will be emailed to you) as soon as possible
- Complete all online mandatory training modules
- Ensure that you meet the mandatory vaccination, vulnerable sector screen and N95 mask fit requirements
- Step 3: On the First Day
-
- Bring your student I.D. and required documents.
- Meet up at the predetermined location with preceptor or Academic Affairs team member.
- Ensure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for your first day. There will be a short tour for everyone and you may be starting your placement on that first day.
