We provide extensive care for all stages of pregnancy, birth and child health. Every birth is a celebration, a normal, healthy process. Pregnancy and birth are unique for each individual.

Our unit has bright and spacious labour and delivery suites to accommodate and support you during labour and birth. Our staff always strive to provide culturally sensitive care during your stay and are committed to meeting your birthing wishes and desires.

The MGH team includes highly trained obstetricians, midwives, family doctors, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians, certified childbirth educators and lactation consultants. Given our affiliation with The University of Toronto and other academic institutions, your care team may also involve students and learners.

YOUR CHOICES

One of the first choices you will need to make is who will provide your prenatal care. Your choices include:

  • Obstetrician: We have 12 obstetricians on staff with diverse and specialized skills to provide evidence based care for our patients. They provide family and patient centered care for low risk births as well as for patients with health complications or facing high risk situations. They provide prenatal, labour, childbirth and postnatal care, as well as other reproductive health care such as preconceptional counselling, fertility, contraceptive planning and gynaecological care.  Please call the individual physician’s community office directly for pregnancy care or have your family physician fax a referral to their office.

  • Family Practice Obstetrician: Family Practice Obstetricians are family physicians who specialize in obstetrics care for pregnant individuals with low-risk pregnancies, but who are also trained to manage common health problems along the way. We apply a primary care lens to the pregnancy, labour and the post-partum period which allows us to provide holistic care to you as a whole person. We see prenatal patients across multiple clinics in East York. Please visit our website for information on how to refer (including self referral).

  • Midwife: We have 15 midwives who work out of The Midwives' Clinic of East York Don Mills. Midwives are specialists in low risk pregnancy, labour and birth and have excellent breastfeeding success rates. Your midwives will do home visits in the first week postpartum and will care for you and your baby for 6 weeks after your birth. Your team of midwives will be on call for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please call 416-424-1976 to book an appointment, or view their website.
