Overview

As a member of the Occupational Health & Safety Department, the OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER (RPN) will work in the Occupational Health Clinic and will practice in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirem ents of the profession. The principal responsibilities include: coordinating all efforts related to the management of communicable and vaccine preventable diseases, performs all activities to support the efforts to control outbreaks and exposures, provid e health care to employees in clinical setting, ensuring employee compliance with the Ontario Public Hospital Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety Insurance Board Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and other applicable legislation s; providing specialized health care; participating actively in Quality Improvement initiatives; performing cross-functional duties as assigned or requested; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Education

- Completion of a Diploma in Nursing or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification.
- Actively wor king towards or completion of a Diploma/Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, COHN and/or ICP preferred.

Qualifications

- Minimum of 2 years of recent related experience in nursing required (in a unionized healthcare environment preferred).
- Proficient computer skills including effective use of Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, SharePoint required; experience with Parklane software is preferred.
- Working knowledge of OH&S, Human Rights and WSIB legislation preferred.
- Sound knowledge of communicable diseases and associated vaccinations.
- Experience in the field of Occupation Health preferred.
- Experience in the f ield of Infection Control preferred.
- Experience managing WSIB claims as asset.
- Venipuncture skills required.
- Ability to effectively triage patients that walk into the Clinic or call on the telephone.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize the nursi ng process and advanced assessment skills in planning, implementing and evaluating care and making clinical decisions.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and initiative for priority setting; demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and champion organizational safety initiatives are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to identify health needs for workers, in health promotion and maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships; excellent communication (writt en/oral) skills required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislations and understanding compliance with confidentiality and privacy requirements is essential.
- Ability to work well independently and within a team environment required.
- Demon strated teaching skills; knowledge of qualityimprovement tools and techniques required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical surveillance initiatives, contact tracing, exposure follow up is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced team environment.
- Excellent patient education skills.
- Proven ability to problem solve effectively and independently.
- Excellent organizational skills (managing workflow, assessing and judging priorities , planning, multi-tasking).
- Excellent interpersonal and crisis intervention skills.
- Experience and comfort working with electronic medical records.
- PPE must be worn at all applicable times.
- Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule.
