Overview

The O.R. Booking Clerk is responsible for the accurate, efficient and confidential scheduling of operating times and procedures for Elective and day surgery patients. In addition this position is responsible for maximizing OR utilization by communicating and coordinating use of available Operating Room time in collaboration with surgical services.

Education

- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Completion of Medical Office Administration or Patient Registration Specialist courses preferred

Qualifications

- 2 years Registration/Admitting/Scheduling experience required
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required
- Previous experience in Operative Room Scheduling preferred
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Excellent interperson al skills
- Good command of the English language
- Demonstrated ability to type 35-45 wpm
- Computer skills; Excel, Word, Outlook e-mail required and Hospital ADT systems (Cerner preferred)
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstr ated ability to function effectively in a diverse work environment
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and problem-solve
- Demonstrated ability to use discretion and self-direction
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Evidence of ongoing educatio n i.e. seminars, workshops, etc.
- Must be available to work weekends and statutory holidays.
- Must be prepared to work in all areas of Patient Access Services as needed.
