Starting Tuesday, November 1, Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) is pleased to announce the opening of the much-anticipated four levels of underground parking in the Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre (Thomson Centre) in advance of the building’s public opening in early 2023.
This early access to over 400 new parking spaces in the Thomson Centre underground parking garage will offer patients, families and visitors with direct and timely access to the hospital.
Beginning November 1, the current public parking lot located at Sammon Ave. and Coxwell Ave. will become a staff and physician parking lot. Public parkers will be directed to the Thomson Centre underground parking garage or other MGH public parking lots.
Public parking rates remain the same. Please visit tehn.ca/parking for more information.
Features of the Thomson Centre underground parking garage
The Thomson Centre underground parking garage comes with a variety of features, including:
- Electric charging stations for 20 vehicles located on levels P2 and P3
- Designated drop-off area for patient transfer vehicles
- Well-lit public areas
- Emergency alert buttons
The Thomson Centre underground parking garage will provide convenient access to the new inpatient and outpatient clinics opening next year. Learn more about the new building features and healthcare services in the Thomson Centre.
Transition of main public parking to the Thomson Centre underground parking garage
During the week of November 1, we encourage patients and visitors to incorporate extra time when arriving for or leaving their appointments. Because the upper floors of the Thomson Centre will not open until early 2023, individuals using the Thomson Centre underground parking garage will be guided through a new designated route to the current hospital building.
Short-term hospital parking continues to be available in the Emergency parking lot off Mortimer Avenue and in the 840 Coxwell Medical Office Building surface parking lot.
MGH extends a sincere thank you to its hospital community and neighbours for their patience and support during the past several years of redevelopment. We are pleased to mark the opening of the underground parking garage and look forward to officially opening the doors of the Thomson Centre to the public for healthcare services in early 2023.
The Thomson Centre is the centrepiece of MGH’s campus transformation, which is ongoing until 2024. After the Thomson Centre opens, MGH will continue with this project by renovating older hospital spaces, decommissioning old wings and landscaping the campus.
By the end of project, the campus will have welcoming green space and public areas that will make MGH a hub for the East Toronto community and create a welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors to enjoy.
