East Toronto Kids are the Winners thanks to a Renewed Partnership between SickKids and TEGH

(September 29, 2015) TORONTO Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH) has teamed up with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) once again in a partnership that gives East Toronto kids access to high-quality, paediatric-focused care in their neighbourhood emergency department.

This partnership means:

  • Our teams have the opportunity to share expert knowledge in paediatric emergency medicine that translates to better care for our youngest patients.
  • Enhanced specialized training for TEGH paediatric emergency department nurses.

One fifth of the patients who visit TEGH’s emergency department are children. For ten years, TEGH has partnered with SickKids in this unique relationship that promotes the best and most current paediatric practices in emergency care.

Quotes

As a parent who lives in this community, I remember bringing my son to Toronto East General Hospital’s emergency department for the first time. It was reassuring to see the hospital’s partnership with the leader in children’s healthcare and to receive such superb care. No doubt, this relationship will help to share best practices in paediatric emergency medicine and maintain the high-quality of care that defines TEGH.”

  • Sarah Downey, President & CEO, Toronto East General Hospital

“This partnership is a win, not only for our youngest patients, but also for the staff and physicians who work in both TEGH and SickKid’s emergency departments. I know we’re excited about sharing best practices and learning with our colleagues at SickKids.”

  • Paul Hannam, Chief of Emergency, Toronto East General Hospital

“Our renewed partnership demonstrates SickKids commitment to children and families, as well as championing the evolution of child health systems as we work with other organizations to build capacity, and develop integrated approaches to outstanding child health care outside the walls of SickKids.”

  • Dr. Michael Apkon, SickKids President & CEO.
