#IamMGH tells the story of our people. Meet Pat Manswell, Registered Nurse (RN) at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH).
“I still remember my first day of work 30 years ago. It was November 16 and my first Canadian job since immigrating here from Trinidad and Tobago. Since day one this has been an amazing place to work, there’s a real sense of community here. Since I’ve been here for so long, I know a lot of people who work at the hospital. Everyone is so kind and happy to chat when I see them in the halls or on a unit.
I started out in orthopedics, but as soon as there was an opportunity in paediatrics, I jumped at the chance. There is something so gratifying about working with children. When you walk in to assess them, you’ll know right away if they aren’t feeling well. They’ll be withdrawn and quiet. But as soon as they feel better, they’ll want to play with you and be smiling again. I love seeing them get well again and walk out of the hospital with a smile on their faces.”
