#IamMGH - Meet Kidisha Joseph

#IamMGH tells the stories of our people. Meet Kidisha Joseph, Team Coordinator, Redevelopment at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH).

“I’ve been with Michael Garron Hospital for almost three years now. My role supports the redevelopment team, and more specifically, transforming spaces within the hospital, along with supporting other off-site projects such as the immunization clinics with their signage and wayfinding. This includes seeing what spaces of the hospital need to be changed in the interim to accommodate for our future move to the new Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre. Each area of the hospital has its own ‘signature.’ They’re all unique spaces that fulfill a greater purpose: to have a positive impact on the people within the community.

My work makes me feel like I am on the HGTV show called Property Brothers, just the only differences are that I don’t have a twin brother and I do not demolish things. I am like the hospital realtor, where I assist with accommodating different teams and departments. I’m also often a contractor, as I assess the rooms and ensure that it has what it needs to become fully operational to that specific team. The only extensive tool I have is a measuring tape! But this handy measuring tape has been of great help to me transforming new ‘homes’ for various teams and departments.

Most of my time is spent with various departments to ensure they have what they need to be operational, including the technological support they need to function in those spaces. After a short-lived email check in the mornings, I am usually found walking around inspecting spaces and determining how we can make the best use of the space for our teams and departments. I help collect information that will help me and my team determine what the next necessary steps are. Then, I coordinate accordingly. There’s not one thing that I’m given on a day-to-day basis; redevelopment has really broadened the scope of what I do.

I graduated from Brock University with a degree in media and communications and my career goal is to become a certified PMP Project Manager. Coordination has always been something I have surrounded myself with. In university, I founded a fashion club and coordinated fashion shows and workshops amongst people within the Niagara region and Greater Toronto Area. I did that for five years, so I’m very familiar with the project coordination and event planning world. It is amazing to see how many of my skills are easily transferable, even in completely different industries. I’ve always liked networking and working with people, it gives me the opportunity to really use my skills and contribute my support through providing various solutions. This is what I love about my role.

It is great to see how redevelopment and other teams have collaborated and put every effort to make this project come to life. I am excited to see the community embrace all the improvements, which in return, will give more opportunity for the staff at MGH to expand and continue to bring the best healthcare possible throughout ‘The Heart of the East.’”
