#IamMGH tells the stories of our people. Meet Ann D’Nazareth, registration clerk at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH).
"My first job at MGH was in the Emergency Department as a registration clerk. It changed my whole outlook on life. There, I saw how life can change in an instant. Registration clerks are often the first point of contact a person has when they come to the hospital. That’s why it is so important for us to be patient-focused. I’ve developed a lot of emotional intelligence through this work. What we see on the outside is often not what a patient is feeling on the inside.
Since the pandemic hit, my assignment has been constantly evolving as the situation demands. Most recently I’ve been supporting our long-term care outreach team. We know that the more testing we do, the sooner we can isolate cases and reduce transmission. This is especially important in the long-term care setting. The outreach team has my direct contact information so that I can do bookings and place swab orders for the residents of our local long-term care homes. Sometimes we are testing them every three days.
The uncertainty that we face right now can be challenging, but we have an amazing team that is really looking out for those group settings and for each other. Every role is so important and everyone is going above and beyond. It has truly been a team effort – one I am grateful to be a part of."
