Dr. Antoine (Tony) Eskander is the Chief of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at Michael Garron Hospital. He is a head and neck oncologist and reconstructive surgeon at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, as well as the Head and Neck Disease Site Lead at the Odette Cancer Centre. His clinical practice is devoted to thyroid and parathyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, skin cancer surgery and head and neck cancer surgery including reconstruction.
Dr. Eskander is also an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Adjunct Scientist at ICES, and Associate Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute. He is the current Lead and Chair of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (CSOHNS) Collaborative Research Initiative and Research Lead for the Division of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Eskander has developed several innovative programs at Michael Garron Hospital including the ambulatory surgery program for thyroid and parathyroid disease, an algorithm to predict need for calcium after thyroid surgery, increased the use of point of care ultrasound through the thyroid diagnostic assessment unit and an intra-operative PTH laboratory test. He is also one of the first Canadian thyroid experts to perform ablative non-surgical therapy (radiofrequency ablation and alcohol ablation) for benign and hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules.
