Dr. Marcus J. Kargel is a Respirologist and Critical Care Medicine physician at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH). He serves as the Division Head of Respirology and the Director of Respiratory Medicine Services at MGH. He also directs the Adult Inpatient Tracheostomy Care Team at MGH. Dr. Kargel provides care for patients admitted to MGH’s inpatient respirology service, including mechanically ventilated patients in the Provincial Prolonged-Ventilation Weaning Centre of Excellence.
Graduating from the University of Toronto's medical school in 1999, Dr. Kargel completed his residency in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Respirology in 2005. Since then, he has served the East York community at MGH. His outpatient Respirology practice, situated in the CHEST Centre on T2 at Michael Garron Hospital, offers specialized care for outpatients dealing with acute and chronic lung conditions.
Dr. Kargel's expertise spans a wide range of respiratory issues, including asthma, COPD, emphysema, shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, bronchiectasis, chest x-ray and chest CT scan abnormalities, lung nodules, lung cancer investigations, lung cancer screening, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, connective tissue diseases affecting the lung, neuromuscular lung diseases, smoking cessation, pleural diseases, and bronchoscopy. Dr. Kargel actively represents Ontario's lung doctors by contributing to committees within the Ontario Medical Association and Ministry of Health. He is a former peer assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
