Staying safe and healthy during FIFA World Cup 26™ in Toronto

The FIFA World Cup 26™ is just around the corner and Toronto is ready to welcome an estimated 300,000 visitors as an official host city!

With numerous games, events and celebrations taking place from June 11 to July 19, it’s important to know how you can stay safe and healthy while taking part in this momentous tournament. Here’s what you need to know.

General emergency care

Whether you’re a local resident or international visitor, it’s important to know how to get healthcare if you need it.

If you are experiencing a severe, potentially life-threatening health issue, please call 9-1-1 or go to a hospital emergency department near you. Severe, potentially life-threatening health issues may include severe physical trauma, loss of consciousness, serious bleeding, sudden chest pain, shortness of breath or weakness.

Should you require first responders (e.g. paramedics, police officers, firefighters and/or other emergency personnel) to take you to a hospital, they will choose the closest hospital that is best able to provide the care you need.

If you are an Ontario resident, you will provide your OHIP card. Please note hospitals in Ontario are required to bill a co-payment charge to individuals who arrive in an ambulance. This rate is set by the Ontario Ministry of Health. Information about fees and charges (based on whether you have or don’t have an OHIP card) can be found here.

Places to get care in East Toronto

If you are in East Toronto and require care, you can find a list of emergency and non-emergency care options here. This includes mental health services, urgent care options, walk-in clinics and more.
