Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) is pleased to announce Professor Changiz Mohiyeddini, PhD, has been appointed the hospital’s inaugural Michael Garron Chair in Education.
The position is held in partnership with the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, where Professor Mohiyeddini has also been named a faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
In his role, Professor Mohiyeddini will serve as MGH's academic education leader, advancing healthcare delivery through developing evidence-based comprehensive educational strategies for all healthcare trainees and professionals.
This includes building simulation-based learning experiences, embedding patient and family perspectives into institutional education and mentoring the next generation of healthcare providers. His work will integrate social justice and health equity across all educational activities to address health disparities for vulnerable populations.
The Michael Garron Chair in Education was established with the generous support of Myron and Berna Garron as part of their $25-million gift to the University of Toronto's Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) in 2024. MGH is a key institutional partner in SAMIH, reflecting its commitment to expanding local healthcare capacity, serving an underserved region, and training practitioners in the community.
This commitment to education also builds on the Garron family's transformational $50-million gift to MGH and reflects their enduring dedication to Michael Garron's legacy through giving back to the East Toronto community.

Professor Mohiyeddini brings over 26 years of leadership in academic medicine, medical education, health professions research, teaching and mentorship. He has held senior academic positions in the United States and Europe, where he has been recognized with several awards for excellence in teaching, research and diversity.
He is a recognized expert in medical education, curriculum development, assessment and faculty development, with a clinical background in behavioural medicine, psychopathology and psychotherapy. He has taught and mentored medical students, psychiatry residents and clinician-educators across multiple institutions and countries.
He serves the scientific community as editor-in-chief and associate editor of several internationally recognized academic journals, and has advised community hospitals and academic institutions in Europe on the implementation of educational interventions.
