Biography

Assistant Professor, University of Toronto Dr. Mary-Anne Aarts graduated from Queen’s University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. She went on to complete her General Surgery training at the University of Toronto in 2005. During her residency she obtained a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology while studying the impact of broad spectrum empiric antibiotic use in critically ill patients. Dr. Aarts completed post graduate fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Aarts joined the staff of Michael Garron Hospital in 2008 and is cross appointed to the Division of General Surgery and to the Department Medicine. Her clinical interests include laparoscopic foregut, bariatric, colorectal and solid organ surgery. Dr. Aarts is actively involved in the University of Toronto’s initiative in Best Practices in General Surgery (BPIGS) with a research interest in Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) for colorectal surgery. She is also Co-chair of the University of Toronto’s Collaborative Bariatric Surgery Research program.
