COVID-19 Service Changes

Last updated: April 14, 2021

On April 8, 2021, Ontario hospitals including Michael Garron Hospital were directed to ramp down elective surgeries and other non-emergent/non-urgent clinical activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This ramp down came into effect on Monday, April 12.

The provincial government will continuously monitor this ramp down with a goal to resume surgical capacity and other deferred services as soon as safely possible.

The health and safety of our patients and community is our top priority. Please see below for service changes at MGH as a result of this directive.

  • Reduction of non-urgent Diagnostic Imaging services
  • Walk-in X-ray services are not available
  • Sleep Lab is cancelled until further notice

Mental Health and Substance Use:

In accordance with provincial guidelines, non-urgent services in the Mental Health and Substance Use Program are being temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.

Cancelled services include:

  • Day Treatment (Psychoeducational Group, individual therapy and monthly outings)
  • Aftercare (Education, social/recreational activities, life skills, prevocational evaluation and counseling)

  • MGH is not able to care for children requiring an inpatient admission to our pediatric unit at this time; however, our Emergency Department remains open to treat and assess children. If a child requires admission to hospital, they will be transferred to SickKids.
  • Our Special Care Nursery remains open.
  • All prenatal and postnatal classes are taking place virtually.
